Tampa Bay Hi-Tech Training Program

The HITT application process is open!

Thank you for your interest in the Tampa Bay Hi-Tech Training Program (HITT)! The US Department of Labor (USDOL) has awarded Tampa Bay a 3.8 million dollar grant for training from April 2, 2012 to April 1, 2016. Below please find detailed information on the HITT program. HITT offers paid tuition, books and fees for industry certification exams in the Information Technology (IT) fields for individuals who meet the program’s eligibility requirements.

General Eligibility

  1. You are currently Long Term Unemployed - you must fall under one of the below categories:
    • You have been without a job for 27 weeks or more and want and are available to work and is able to provide documentation for Unemployment Insurance eligibility
    • You have lost your job during the recent recession (commencing January 1, 2008 forward), and have exhausted unemployment benefits
    • You have not yet reconnected with a job that provides comparable responsibility and pay (Underemployment)
    • You are working a part-time job(s) when you want a full-time job, or you have become discouraged and have stopped looking for a job.
  2. You are a Hillsborough or Pinellas County resident.
  3. You are 18 years or older.
  4. You meet U.S. Citizen requirements or hold current Authorization to Work in the U.S.
  5. You have a high school diploma or a GED.
  6. Current Resume (IT experience highly recommended)
  7. You must pass the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) and score at a 9.0 overall (9th grade level). To prepare for the TABE, click here to review the “Preparing for TABE"
  8. You must pass a PC and Suitability Assessment for your selected program.

Please note the following requirements for SPC’s programs:

  • All prospective students begin with: TABE and Suitability Assessments.
  • Credit program will require students to meet all SPC admission requirements.
  • All non-credit programs will begin with a class in Agile Development to fulfill the IT Gap concern for a better understanding of this technique.
